About
This site is dedicated to raising money for Sam Lloyd from Ynystawe. Sam Lloyd was a full time fireman until he was involved in an accident whilst on holiday in June last year. Sam, who is 28 years old, sustained damage to his C5 neck bone while swimming in the sea in Spain, and due to the extent of the damage is now living with a Spinal Chord Injury (SCI) and is wheel-chair bound. He is currently staying at Rockwood Hospital in Cardiff, but will hopefully be able to come home after Christmas. One example of Sam’s nature and courage was illustrated a week before his accident whilst surfing at Llangennith, Gower. Sam rescued someone who was struggling with the current and helped them get to the beach safely.
Every year, over 1,000 people sustain a SCI, and there are thought to be 40,000 people living with SCI in the UK alone. With the right support and encouragement, people can look forward to enjoying a full and independent life with SCI.
We need to raise funds to buy Sam a wheel chair to enable him to be as mobile as possible so he can to enjoy as much of a fulfilling life as possible. We are willing to work hard to raise these funds and are also hoping to raise enough money to make desperately needed modifications to Sam's house when he gets home, so that he can be as independent as possible.
Also, we are trying to also raise enough funds to send Sam and a carer to Project Walk in California, USA.
